Holistic Counselling & Psychotherapy
My approach to counselling and psychotherapy is progressive and oriented to your positive healthy future. Importantly I want to understand your situation and what transformation you want to take place. I need to make sure that our time together completely aligns with who you are, physically, emotionally, culturally, spiritually and everything in between. Holistic work is about working with you in your totality.
We need to create a short term professional relationship where, from my experience, I provide skills and resources that allow you to take control, to truly make changes within yourself that become evident in the outside world. The new version of yourself should feel completely natural, not forced, not following a script or a set of rules. Even if your journey begins with a new narrative or perspective, it quickly becomes the new version of yourself that you create from within, aligning with your values and beliefs.
Do I look for or insist on finding the time or event or person that triggered the events that finally brought you to my clinic? Sometimes, usually not, but if you need my support to do it, then of course yes. Most of my clients want to move forward, accepting and reframing past events and traumas as simply a part of their story. They usually don’t want to carry them around (baggage is burdensome). Many clients have been down the looking backward path enough times to have an intelligent grasp of the past. My role as a therapist is to help you eliminate baggage, so you are free to move forward lightly, treading confidently into your personal future.
I don’t hold to a particular technique or franchised practice. I prefer to be free to use the skills and resources that I’ve learned, studied and most importantly, used with real people. The success of my work is judged by my client’s ability to move forward into a set of new life choices made by them, aligned with their sense of who they want to be and what that looks and feels like. Most of my clients see me 3 to 5 times, sometimes longer, but only if we both agree that is what’s needed. I have clients who “check in” a a few times a year for a refresher session, or to work through a new challenge.
I recommend that new clients book a group of three sessions which are discounted, although you can book a single session, or a free Telehealth discussion before making a commitment.
