Holistic Hypnotherapy

You can expect to be completely listened to because I am interested in your experience of your personal situation, whether the issues are physical, emotional, psychological or spiritual. I want to know where you are at, what you have done to overcome your issues or problems, what’s worked, what hasn’t worked and why you are seeking hypnotherapy as a way to make the transformation that you want.

It is all about helping you make the transformation that you want. I need to understand you and your way of thinking so that I can best serve your needs. I want to make sure I respect your cultural and personal beliefs, your reasons and motivations. Holistic is a word that is used widely now, even though it is only 100 years old. For the purposes of hypnotherapy, I want to work with your personal situation and all its dimensions, so that I can bring your to your desired new situation.

Put simply, hypnosis is a tool, a vehicle, like a car. It’s a great tool for making change in a calm, focused and timely way. Like a car, it’s the driver that makes the difference. And to keep the car story going, I’m the driving instructor, as you are driving the change.

There are now many styles and types and franchises of hypnotherapy. After 30+ years, I’ve explored a range of strategies and techniques. The hypnosis bit is easy, and you will find yourself gaining a sense of smooth and effortless control. You are driving the car, I become the navigator. Whether you best respond to a didactic or Ericksonian session, loaded with imagery or meticulously structured ‘script’ are among the many decisions I need to make. That’s why I spend time understanding your entire situation.

I record every session and send it to you so that you can use the session between appointments. I often provide additional exercises for you to do between our appointments, sometimes sending SMS texts to you as a prompt. Or an email for encouragement. Again, it’s up to you and I to create a short term professional relationship so you can experience the transformation that you want in a timely manner.

Hypnosis is a “brief therapy” in that we can achieve maximum change in a minimum time with you feeling satisfied that you are now on the other side of the problem. I have seldom seen clients beyond 3 to 4 sessions, except in very specific situations (for example, heroin addiction).

I do see clients later on, typically for a new issue. They know from their past experience it can be resolved with hypnosis. The skills and confidence you gain from overcoming a personal issue allow you to apply those skills to new obstacles that present themselves in your life.

As to the types of issues that clients bring to the session, they are so wide and varied that to list them all makes hypnotherapy seem like magic. It is in a sense, as hypnotherapy can be applied to:

  • Habits [smoking, vaping, nail-biting, chocolate, hair pulling, relationship behaviour patterns]
  • Fears [public speaking, phobias, snakes, spiders, dentist, surgery]
  • Anxiety [which underpins many issues]
  • Stress Management [which helps manage many issues]
  • Physiology Management [blood pressure, thyroid hormones, cancer, immune disorders]
  • Pain Management [chronic injury, phantom limb, anaesthesia]
  • Performance [study, work, sport, personal goals]
  • Personal [grief, trauma, relationship issues]

I recommend that new clients book a group of three sessions which are discounted, although you can book a single session, or a free Telehealth discussion before making a commitment.
