The Long COVID Recovery Program
[a Post Viral Syndrome]
Have you had COVID? I have, it’s not fun. Have you had it multiple times or even once, then never felt you fully got over it? As a natural therapist, I was used to dealing with post viral syndromes, including Epstein-Barr virus (mononucleosis), Ross River Virus and Barmah Forest Virus. You get sick, then you don’t fully recover.
Perhaps you were compromised before, during or after you had COVID. Perhaps you had a problem with the vaccine you took. You survived the pandemic, but now you are not quite the person you were, possibly you are greatly compromised.
Like most Post Viral Syndromes, the Long COVID symptom list is vague, huge and so individual that it must have an individual program for recovery. And it can take time. Fortunately, we have herbs that can deal with the symptoms as well as aid in long term recovery (adaptogens). Getting the mix right is a combination of experience (the art of prescribing) and science (knowledge and evidence based prescribing).
The Holistic Approach
Evaluate your personal situation, based on your medical history, age, gender, weight, dietary habits, sleep and exercise habits, essentially evaluating your current situation with no judgement.
Assess your unique set of symptoms and challenges, some or all of which may be the result of COVID-19. Assess your energy levels and abilities cognitively. Determine what’s changed and how you are affected day to day.
Provide herbs to manage your recovery. Address and support the relief of debilitating symptoms. Address and support your full recovery from the malaise, the lingering problems and general lack of energy and vitality. If you are taking medication, the herbs will support your progress and you may be able to reduce your drugs over time, possibly eliminate them [with your doctor’s support].
Suggest supplements if necessary to support your changing situation.
Adjust your diet and nutritional strategy, working with strategies that may include adjusting protein, fat and carbohydrate intake and sources. Tailor your eating rhythm to support your energy levels and general day to day fitness, whilst ensuring a proper intake of good fats, proteins and macronutrients.
Ensure that you are getting enough sleep and appropriate exercise and if necessary suggest strategies or provide herbs or supplements to improve your sleep quality and exercise recovery.
Assist you in providing strategies and techniques to minimise or reduce stresses in your life.
Teach self-hypnosis if you need psychological support to make the changes necessary or wish to explore the use of hypnosis to adjust physiological parameters.
It is a holistic multi-disciplinary approach, based on my clinical experience and background in biological science, traditional herbal medicine and clinical hypnotherapy. I want to work with you in a way that gets you maximum benefit and results in a timely manner. As your program may run over a several months after your first consultation, I typically schedule follow up sessions 2, 4 or 6 weeks apart, as we adjust the program to suit your unique situation. Herbs and supplements are charged separately.
