Holistic Herbal Medicine & Nutrition

Holistic Herbal Medicine is built on the traditions of traditional herbal practitioners worldwide. Their practice was culture based, tended to the physical, emotional and even spiritual needs of their tribe or clan. They also made their medicines for each situation using the local plant materials.

My approach is to deal with your presenting situation, what you want to change or fix or make better. I also want to understand your background, dietary preferences or practices, as well as your general physical, emotional, psychological and even spiritual beliefs. By knowing more about you, all that you are, my prescriptions can be more refined to you and your unique situation.

I draw upon my early explorations as a teenager, learning aromatherapy on my own, then herbal preparations, until 20 years later when I was a university lecturer teaching botany, herbal medicine and herbal manufacturing. I draw upon the knowledge of traditional herbal practitioners as well as the known properties of herbs, insights from clinical trials and scientific research. My clinical work is focused on providing you with the skills and resources to make the transformations you want to make.

Herbal medicines can be as simple as dietary inclusions to balance mineral deficiencies or as complex as professionally formulated extracts of herbs designed for your specific situation. I use teas, extracts, tablets, poultices, dietary adjustment or even “grow your own” prescriptions. Why grow your own? Some herbs work best when fresh (like feverfew).

Most of my clients present with a diagnosed health or medical condition that is not responding as well as they want with their current treatment. I often work alongside pharmaceutical prescriptions, typically with the support of your GP. I will be honest with you about what I can offer. Once you have achieved the level of control of your health and life you want, our work transitions to health maintenance.

Working online means that as part of your booking process, I ask you to fill in a short questionnaire. This means that at our first consultation I have all your main details and some insight as to your reasons for coming to me. During our first Telehealth session we discuss your reasons for seeking support to make changes in your life and I outline the plan for this session and future sessions. I conduct the session with you, which may include suggestions or techniques for you to use between sessions. I always send a summary note to you for your records.
